Jeff Evancho is the Director of Partnerships and Equity for the Northgate School District as well as an active leader within the Remake Learning Network. Jeff has been championing remaking learning for all children for over 2-decades in education. He started by teaching visual arts in the public school system for 15 years in both the middle and high school settings. His work teaching and learning in and through the arts lead to the creation of Studio Life, a unique framework for after-school programs. Jeff spent many years working in the afterschool program niche, where ideas like youth agency, passion-driven teaching, and real-world learning have all influenced his work in school reform initiatives.
In recent years Jeff has worked with other Remake champions and the Grable Foundation to offer equitable and relevant professional development to regional educators. Jeff designs and champions professional development that supports ideas like educational agency, equity, relevance, global competencies and more. Jeff is leading the growth and expansion of a regional hub for professional development rooted in Harvard Graduate School of Education, Project Zero research and ideas, making connections from research to practice. Jeff connects the work of local schools and Project Zero ideas to the Remake Learning Network for the purpose of growing a robust regional culture of thinking and learning throughout the greater Pittsburgh region.
Jeff also co-leads a learning community known as Agency by Design Pittsburgh. AbD_pgh is a research-practice partnership designed to connect educators from diverse maker-based learning environments for the purpose of developing mutual understandings of maker-centered learning and assessment.
